Dr. Maia Alees Gaither is a Board Certified Pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, as well as a Doctor of Medicine degree from Howard University. She trained as an Intern and Resident at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles which was ranked the number four Pediatric Hospital in the Country by U.S. News and World Report.
She now works at Children’s Comprehensive Medical Group in Los Angeles with the Clinical Chief of Pediatrics of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.She currently can be seen as a Pediatric Expert on KCET’s Emmy Nominated television show “A Place of Our Own” which airs in Los Angeles daily, but it is scheduled to begin airing nationwide soon.

11 months, 3 weeks agoChildhood overweight and obesity is a growing problem today. About one-third of the children in this country are overweight.[1] That equals about 9 million children. An additional 15% of our children are at risk for becoming overweight.[2] Overweight adolescents have a 70% chance of becoming overweight or obese adults. That risk increases to 80% if one of their parents is overweight.[3]
